New York City, the city that never sleeps, or “The Big Apple,” whatever you refer to NYC as, it’s still one of the most visited places in the world. With a diverse artistic culture, skyscrapers that take your breath away, some of the best restaurants in the world, and fashion around every corner, why wouldn’t you visit New York City immediately? Let us show you some of our favorite spots in the city!
Stop 1: Grand Central Terminal
If you’re interested in one of the most famous buildings in NYC, and the 6th most visited attraction in the world, stop by Grand Central Terminal. Whether you’re looking for the ornate painting, historical architecture, people watching, or you’re just eager to actually step foot in the place Serena was first spotted back in the city (xoxo, Gossip Girl) you won’t be disappointed here. Don’t forget to check out what’s happening in Vanderbilt Hall while you’re there, to see what exhibits they are holding. Also, if you’re visiting from mid November through December, you will be able to take a stroll through the Grand Central Holiday Market to view and purchase different handmade and artisan gifts.
Stop 2: World Trade Center Memorial/Freedom Tower
New York City has been through a lot of tragedy and much renovation since September 11, 2001, but within that tragedy, the citizens of NYC and surrounding boroughs have come together to build their city up again. The strength in their character has grown and their appreciation and gratitude for their lives and the lives of those around them has increased exponentially. Visit the WTC Memorial to pay your respects and give prayers to those who were lost, those who saved others, and those who are continually struggling to rebuild their lives and families. The Freedom Tower stands tall and represents the resilience New York City will continue to exude.
Stop 3: Empire State Building
You can’t visit NYC and not go to the Empire State Building! From Sleepless in Seattle to Elf to King Kong, the Empire State Building, in all of its grandeur, has become infamously associated with New York City. From the observation deck you have an unobstructed 360 degree view of the city, plus you can pretend you’re Meg Ryan! Oh, and don’t forget to press all the buttons in the elevator on the way up, Buddy will LOVE you 😉
Stop 4: Chelsea Market
With quaint markets, restaurants, gift shops and luxury stores, Chelsea Market holds the key to a charming little area in the center, yet entirely removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. It does get busy during lunch times and after work, but stopping by for a latte and a walk mid-morning might be the little escape you need from the honking cars and subway smells (and plus, you’re on vacation anyway, so your time is yours!)
Stop 5: DUMBO
If you’ve seen any instagram posts of NYC, you have almost definitely heard the word DUMBO, an acronym used to describe the most photogenic place in the city (well, technically Brooklyn), the District Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. The place where everyone stops to take their most artistic photos with their most attractive filter, DUMBO is definitely where you want to be if you’re interested in an amazing view, and some major social media likes.
